Why Mid Essex ITT?
Here are some of the reasons why you should choose Mid Essex for your teacher training:
- We have 30 years' experience and over 800 teachers have trained with us in Essex
- Mid Essex has a small, friendly team of staff who get to know all our trainee teachers well, and are able to offer personalised support for them every Thursday
- We have received two outstanding Ofsted judgements in a row (2017 and 2024)
- We have links with more than 20 secondary schools across Essex and most candidates will be placed in one of their top three schools
- We train between 50-60 trainees each year and you will meet up with them, face-to-face, every week
- Our weekly training in the fantastic Braintree Arts Theatre and you will hear from a range of experts in their field
- In addition, you will have weekly subject expert training (SET), in smaller subject cohorts and this is hosted at your Lead Subject Tutor's school
- You will also be awarded a PGCE (with level 7 Masters credits) from Anglia Ruskin University
- You will have the support of a dedicated Course Tutor from the central Mid Essex ITT team, plus a Subject Mentor, Professional Tutor and Lead Subject Tutor. There is always someone at the end of an email or phone to contact!
- Our course completion rate has been higher, or in line with, the national average for the last 10 years.
- Our employment rate has also been higher than the national average for the last 10 years, with 95%-100% of all trainees who complete the course securing a teaching role.
- The well-being of our trainees is one of our key priorities and we make active steps each year to review the workload of both our trainees and mentors

Safer recruitment of trainee teachers
- Mid Essex ITT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- We implement safer recruitment procedures and all candidates will be required to have a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) criminal records check
- Mid Essex ITT will also carry out a check of the children's barred list and prohibition from teaching list
- Mid Essex ITT will also seek references from two professional individuals and ask each referee to state that he/she “knows of no reason why the applicant should not work with children or vulnerable adults"
- Following receipt of the application, candidates may be asked to complete a work history form, accounting for any gaps in employment or study
- Applicants who have lived or worked overseas may be asked to apply for a certificate of good conduct in addition to their DBS check
- All applicants will be asked to complete an Occupational Health questionnaire to check that they are fit to train
