Martin Higgon

Programme Manager

Martin taught for three years in a Suffolk comprehensive school before moving to Notley High School as Head of History in January 2005.  In September 2005 he also became responsible for leading Citizenship.  In 2008 he became an Advanced Skills Teacher in history, with responsibilities which included leading teacher training, where he liaised with a number of ITT providers, foremost among them Mid Essex ITT.  

In 2010 Martin became Assistant Headteacher at Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form, with responsibilities including Continuing Professional Development, Initial Teacher Training, pastoral leadership of year groups in Key Stage Three, Child Protection and Primary School Liaison.  From September 2012- August 2014 Martin completed a Masters in Education degree in educational research with the University of Cambridge.  His research focused specifically on investigating the key features of CPD which enables teachers to enhance their classroom practice.  During 2014 Martin was also designated a Specialist Leader of Education within Saffron Walden County High School’s Teaching School Alliance, specialising in Continuing Professional Development and Initial Teacher Training.

In September 2014, following the rotation of its lead school to Notley High School & Braintree Sixth Form, Martin became the Programme Manager for Mid Essex ITT.  He continues to teach history across the 11-19 age range, including on the International Baccalaureate at Braintree Sixth Form.
