Lead Subject Mentor for Science
Oliver worked for six years in the City of London for a pension fund management company before switching to a teaching career. He graduated from Canterbury Christ Church in 2002 with a BSc 2.1 and worked his way to Director of Science at his previous school in Thurrock.
Whilst working in Thurrock, Oliver was an integral member of the Thurrock Teaching Alliance and was nominated for a Thurrock Teaching Award. He also received a certificate from his educational trust for the progress of his science pupils.
Oliver has a passion for mentoring trainee science teachers and enjoys watching the progression they make during their initial training year. The prospect of facing a full class of pupils can be rather daunting, especially when practical activities are planned.
In 2017, Oliver moved to The Deanes Academy and has worked with Mid Essex ITT as LSM for science. His experience of managing the practical aspects of teaching science are essential for the training and development of new science teachers as they progress towards QTS.
